Lipsticks found to have lead and/or pfas

Even if you’re not a big lip color wearer…

This is important

A 2007 study, 61% of lipsticks studied contained lead

A study done in 2003, 76% of “GREEN” (clean) lip products were found to have PFAS (forever chemicals) in them.

All products that go on our skin, are important. But products that go on our lips, and more than half of girls under 10, and more than 80% of girls over 10 are using??

There is a much higher risk of ingesting and absorbing these toxins due to location of application (eating + absorbing through skin)and the amount of times it is reapplied per day.

Here are a few of the surprising brands found to have lead and/or pfas in them!

  1. Maybelline

  2. Cover Girl

  3. Dior

  4. Burts Bees

  5. Ilia

  6. Juice Beauty

  7. Kosas

  8. Limelife

  9. Pacifica

  10. PYT Beauty

  11. Toups & Co

  12. MAC

  13. Young Living

None of our health can afford to use unsafe lip products and we need more alarms going off about this!

Lead is a well-known and proven neurotoxin that has been linked to:

• learning, language and behavioral problems

• infertility in both men and women

• hormonal disruptions

• because it can cross the placenta barrier-shown to contribute to fetal brain injury and miscarriage

• when pre- adolescents are exposed, shown to delay puberty in boys and girls

PFAS are a group of manufactured chemicals used in the US since the 40s and are extremely toxic to humans.

PFAS have been detected in in the bloodstream of 97% of Americans and are connected to:

• breast cancer

• testicular cancer

• cardiovascular disease

• immune disorders

• infertility

• thyroid disorders

• adverse childhood development

and more

How do I find a safe lipstick?

The truth is, it’s not easy. Our beauty regulations here in the US are so messy. And even if a company is using clean ingredients you can read on their label, how do you know if there are contaminants like heavy metals and PFAS?

My biggest advice is to choose companies that don’t compromise. They test. They test again. And they ensure their manufacturers aren’t compromising either.

My favorite clean beauty company is Crunchi. And here’s why:

  • The are transparent with all of their ingredients

  • They use science and caution with studies for all ingredients allowed in their products

  • Vegan

  • Made in the USA

  • Women owned

  • Gluten free

  • Non-GMO

  • 3rd party tested for heavy metals and PFAS

  • EWG verified

  • Leaping Bunny certified

  • 4Ocean certified to be plastic neutral (No primary packaging in plastic another precaution they use not just for the planet, but also to reduce possibility of plastic chemicals leaching into your product) (actually remove more plastic from the planet than their company uses)

Try Crunchi lips here - they will far surpass your expectations. Use code ADVOCATE10 for 10% off your first order!
