Safe Sun - Part 1
? Do you wear SPF every day?
Let’s start with the basics. WHY is protecting our skin from the sun even important??
I hear...A LOT.... “I only put on SPF if I’m going to be outside all day!”
Even if you’re only exposure to the sun is your drive to get groceries, rain or shine, it is SO IMPORTANT!
Because exposure to ultraviolet radiation is estimated to be associated with 80%–90% of skin cancers, the use of sunscreen — which blocks ultraviolet radiation — is promoted as the leading means of preventing skin cancers, as well as sunburn and skin photoaging.
Can you believe the difference in this picture ?
This man’s left side is AGED 15 years MORE than his right. The cause?
............> SUN DAMAGE<............
He was a trucker for a living and half of his face received more sun damage through the window than the other half . This damage isn’t from being outdoors-but through glass!
Here are some facts:
+ Regular daily use of SPF Helps prevent premature skin aging caused by the sun, including wrinkles, sagging and age spots
+ Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and worldwide.
+ 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.
+ More people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the US than all other cancers combined
+ Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma.
+ Regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent.
+ People who use an SPF 15 + daily show 24% less skin aging than those that don’t wear sunscreen daily
+ Those who develop frequent abnormal cases of skin cancer, are about 3X more likely to develop other cancers
I additionally get comments, every once in a while, those that say they don’t put on SPF because they want to absorb Vitamin D. So piece 2 (coming next!) are my thoughts on that!
